Although slavery was officially abolished all over the world since 1980, the slave trade is still present on every continent. Refusing to be an accessory to any form of slavery or human trafficking and in accordance with the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act, Grass Valley is adopting a zero tolerance approach towards slavery and human trafficking in its supply chains:
Verification of product supply chains
Grass Valley verifies and archives the statements on human trafficking / slavery it receives from its suppliers for new components used in its products. The verification of the statements is conducted by Grass Valley, and not by a third party, via its internal compliance management system, to assess, among other things, the risk of slavery and human trafficking in its supply chains.
Audits of suppliers
So far, Grass Valley has not identified significant risks with direct suppliers that would require the conduct of audits of suppliers. However, those of our suppliers that are members of the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) follow an audit process and adhere to the EICC’s Code of Conduct that establishes standards to ensure that working conditions in the electronics industry supply chain are safe and workers are treated with respect and dignity.
Certifications from direct suppliers
For any new component in the manufacture of its products, Grass Valley systematically asks its suppliers to provide a statement of compliance to applicable slavery and human trafficking laws.
In accordance with Belden’s Code of Business Ethics and Conduct, each employee and consultant agrees to fulfill their assigned tasks in accordance with applicable laws and the principle of respecting human rights. In the event of a Code violation, management will take the appropriate measures, which can extend to the dismissal of the employee.
Grass Valley informs and trains those R&D employees and managers that have a direct role in supply chain management. The objective is to develop awareness and understanding of the issues of human trafficking and slavery in supply chains and to ensure that verification of the supply chains is done in accordance with Grass Valley’s procedures.
